Thank you for your interest in Oak Song Music Therapy. My name is Amy Standridge and I have been a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) since 2000. I received a Master of Music degree in music therapy from Colorado State University in 2000, and a Master of Music degree in music and human learning from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006. In 2013 I became a registered Music Together instructor, and in 2017 I became a licensed Music Together Within Therapy provider.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Pomona College in Claremont, California, I worked a variety of jobs, occasionally playing my beloved piano as a hobby whenever I could. I had not majored in music because I had not intended to perform or teach. Now, however, I do both quite joyfully! Music therapy was the perfect marriage of my interest in psychology and helping others, to my passion for music and its healing properties.

Over the years I have worked with individuals and groups of all ages, from one year old to 90 years old and beyond!  I completed my music therapy internship at a VA hospital, spent five years at the prestigious Center for Music Therapy in Austin, Texas, and have since been in private practice and served as a subcontractor while raising small children. I have worked with children who have autism and other neurodevelopment disorders,  teens with multiple disabilities, adults recovering from traumatic brain injuries, senior adults thriving with Parkinson’s Disease, and older adults with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. My career has introduced me to many wonderful people, local news, and even national television! It’s such a joy to help others in this way.

Oak Song Music Therapy and Consulting Services was founded in August of 2017 as the youngest of our three children geared up to attend kindergarten at the school district where I have conducted music therapy evaluations for the past several years. The oak tree symbolizes growth, beauty, and strength, having deep roots and bearing beautiful foliage that consistently regrows as seasons change. Please join me in celebrating the power of music to bring growth, love, and community here at Oak Song Music Therapy!
