Grace Notes Community Singers
Grace Notes Community Singers is an intergenerational choir for people living with dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders, and their care partners. No experience is necessary – you are welcome to join us at any time. We sing familiar music from lyric sheets or lead sheets if the singer prefers. We are a supportive community drawn together by a love of singing, and of the connection that music brings to our lives. Our choir is led by a Board Certified Music Therapist with a choral degree from The University of Texas at Austin.

Why Singing?
Research shows that group singing increases “feel good” hormones like oxytocin and decreases the stress hormone acetylcholine (ACh). Singing is accessible and fun, brings back memories and emotions, and is enjoyable even into the later stages of dementia. Singing improves respiration, articulation, and volume in people experiencing vocal symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Choral singing also results in strong feelings of connection and community, something we need increasingly as we age. Oak Song Music Therapy and Consulting Services is a proud member of the American Music Therapy Association.
